about

The self-titled Infra Ed cd/album is really a collection of glorified demos that were recorded as a way of learning about digital recording. It has an even split of six originals and six cover tunes and is assembled to be listened to in sequence as a complete work.

Infra Ed was influenced early on by artists like Frank Zappa, Prince & Todd Rudgren who operated their own recording gear and could play or compose parts for all the instruments. The mixes are mainly intended to be listened to over earphones/earbuds or on a bitchen stereo with a fat low end.

The listening experience begins with Infra Ed’s interpretation of the classical composer Richard Strauss’s famous composition :
Also Spracht Zarathustra

Infra Ed transcribed the piece to be centered around the guitar and performed all 48 parts (also added a couple of bars for good measure : )
As the song fades out the following song fades up.

Dance of Maya - originally recorded by The Mahavishnu Orchestra. It’s a song that always fascinated Infra Ed so he decided to see if he could learn and record all of the parts. Understanding that it could never reach the outrageous level of brilliance of the original, Infra Ed transmits the song with his own sound.

I’ll Find You- is an Infra Ed original tune that begins in a synthetic soundscape as a song about searching for Love and ends as a sort of flamenco trip to Andalusia.

Twelve Gates to the City- a trippy hippy cover tune written by the late, great Graham Bond (who believed that he was the illegitimate son of Aleister Crowley and died prematurely by jumping in front a London train)

(What’s Going) Down in Mesquite - another Infra Ed original. This song is the true story of a standoff between a close friend and the police (and, of course, their brutal overreaction).

Amazing Grace- Infra Ed takes on this timeless hymnal acapella in four-part harmony.

Grave Digger- Another Infra Ed original. It was originally featured as a split 7” vinyl release with Infra Ed and Jason Potbelly on one side and Chump Change on the other. Jason performs background vocals. The theme centers around the digging of holes for those to be laid to rest. (Creepy Creaky door sound recorded at the birthplace of Vlad Dracul in Transylvania)

The Singer - This song was originally written by Ty Segal. Infra Ed was blown away by a performance of this tune at a Ty Segal concert. He felt compelled to attempt a recording. The guitar solo was particularly inspired in the moment.

(9. I Had A Dream - a brief intro to a dream)

Babba Choo- another Infra Ed original that was based on a sound environment that came from a dream.

Norwegian Ja Guru De Va Om Rain Wood- a cover of the Beatles that takes a left turn with some mashup towards the end

Big Medicine - an Infra Ed original. This recording was intended as a demo for a band. It was inspired by a trip to New Orleans to perform during Mardi Gras.

Shimmer- an original song. The only song recorded with a live rhythm section. Infra Ed on drums, Ronaldo Ambossa on bass and Jim Sadler on piano. Basically an experiment In songwriting.
