about

April 14th, 2023. I approached the Double Down Saloon in Las Vegas. My week had been long and my day had started at 1:00 a.m. I was tired, to say the least. Thoughts of bailing out of my commitment ran through my mind, as my bedtime for this week was 6:00 p.m.
I walked through the doors of the club around 9:40 p.m., grabbed a spot at the bar, and ordered a Guinness and a shot of Maker's Mark. I threw back the whiskey and took a sip of my beer.
Taking in the atmosphere, I noticed the banner reading “Blue Elephant and the Seven Snakes”. Chaotic movement on the stage made me realize, “There’s my guys.”
I watched and waited as they finished setting up. One of them walked up to the bar, wielding a drink token. I hesitated. “Should I wait till after the show?” I thought. “No, fuck it.” I went over and spoke to the thirsty musician (I would later find out he was Jordan). “Hi, I’m looking for Brandon.”
The welcome I received was unexpected, big smiles and adulation for the End of Time album that I recorded 34 years ago with The Dehumanizers. A quick trip down memory lane, and introductions to all the band members: Brandon (vocals), Lima (guitar), Marko (drums), and Jordan (bass). Time for the show.
They opened with “I’d Start a Coup for You”. I was glad I came.
As the set continued, the audience grew and summoned up a mosh pit. After each song, the crowd wanted more, as did I. “No Escape” hit me on a personal level. I enjoyed Brandon’s take on being locked up for a day.
All too soon, they were finished. They could have played another hour or two. Hell, they could have held the club for the night.
Blue Elephant and the Seven Snakes’ love of music, life, and the creative process shows in the excitement in their songs. Not only are these guys great humans, but their music expresses who they are, solid, tight, and grounded.
If you don’t check this band out or see them live, you’re fucking stupid.

– Joe Daut (Vocalist, The Dehumanizers)
