about

This seven-inch was debuted by Sanaty Productions of Philadelphia in 1986. It’s fairly historic in nature as it is the first-ever split record of any size involving a metal band from Washington, let alone two great ones. It is also, the one and only release Sanaty ever put out.

Max Planck was fresh, raw, wild and so different than any other band out there. They were also the only band from Port Townsend, Washington. I can draw one comparison, Manilla Road, and when I met Max Planck for the first time in 1985, they had no idea who the great Manilla Road was. Max Planck was a three-piece that varied between a Creedence style rock crossed with a Metal Church style of metal. In fact, Terry Date produced both Metal Church and Max Planck. The songwriting was unique, creative, and great. They were fronted by Rod Freeman, a history buff, who poured detailed history into his lyrics. ‘Fucked Up’ is obviously not one of his historical songs, but it’s sure is fun. In 1989, ‘Fucked Up’ was the modern equivalent of Bob Dylan’s ‘Everyone Must Get Stoned.’ The band had a female bass player named Colleen and a drummer name Eddie. They were amazing. In fact, Mort, from the infamous alternative group the Mono Men claims that Max Planck is the Washington State band he misses the most.

Puyallup Washington, the home of the infamous fair and scones is also the home to Kil D’ Kor. A traditional spandex-wearing heavy metal band with the true eighties metal sound. What made them unique was not their style, it was simply that they were the best at it. They had stage presence and songwriting abilities that could’ve rivaled the likes of such great bands such as Van Halen, the Scorpions, and Whitesnake. ‘Chained Angel’ is a great representation and I think you’ll appreciate the vocal talents of Shane. Instead of Kil D’ Kor hitting it big as they deserved, they signed a record contract with a record company that foolishly shelved their project. Their career was delayed over two years and it was a death sentence for the band. Lead guitarist and songwriter Brian Coloff went on to have and is still having a promising career. Brian is most well-known for the Rhino Humpers. He is very highly respected in the Seattle music community. We are uncertain what happened to the rest band, but we sure miss them.

The seven-inch cover also indicates from the new compilation album ‘Start To Stardom.’ Like the Kil D’ Kor debut album, ‘Start To Stardom’ was also shelved. The members of Max Planck and Kil D’ Kor didn’t really know each other, but they are historically linked through this split, playing together on the same bill at the infamous Gorilla Gardens club and again at the Golden Crown in Seattle. They also both appeared prior to this on the Metal Meltdown Vinyl Compilation. Ironically, their linkage is probably my fault as I managed both bands at the time, book the shows, put out Metal Meltdown, and submitted each of them individually for the ‘Start To Stardom’ compilation, which led to Northwest Connection. Enjoy!
